Dallas in review
I went to Dallas this past weekend for the first time, and I’m sorry to say that I really did not like it. The only redeeming things I encountered were a sign that read “Mothers Against Abbott” and a woman with big hair who told me she took her daughter to the doctor when she was a baby because she would only eat Tex-Mex.
I probably would’ve like it more if it weren’t 105 degrees. We didn’t rent a car and because of the heat, we Ubered across extremely short distances. I tried to figure out the bus system but it just wasn’t convenient. I prefer public transportation to Uber because I don’t have to talk to people, and Nathan insists on talking to Uber drivers from the minute we get into the car until we get out, which is exhausting for a hermit like me.
At the end of the trip, we rated our Uber drivers by how interesting they were. Our uncontested favorite was “KittyKat,” a 60-year-old Christian-slash-Buddhist who drove us past The Grassy Knoll on our way to the airport and said there was no way Lee Harvey Oswald’s bullet could’ve reached Kennedy in his car. I was worried I wouldn’t meet a JFK conspiracy theorist in the 50 hours I was in Dallas but there she came in the 49th hour.
I did go on one outdoor run while I was there and it was categorically awful. It was already 80 degrees when I left at 7 am and my pace was a solid 2 minutes per mile slower than usual. Somehow, I ran 10 miles. I tried to keep track of all the girls I saw wearing the Outdoor Voices exercise dress but I lost count. I think you have to have naturally straight hair to be the type of person who exercises in a dress for non-religious reasons. Good for you.
I should probably end this note with something positive. I really enjoy Strava’s premium features when I’m traveling and looking for new places to run. My training schedule called for 15-second hill repeats during the aforementioned 10 mile run, and I was able to find a hill segment on Strava’s map before I headed out the door. I also found a nice running path called the Katy Trail with lots of water fountains (and girls in exercise dresses).
Hope there aren’t any typos.
Sorry I didn’t like Dallas.
Happy running,
Elaheh
